  19. Subject: Using Screen Savers with WinFax
  20.  
  21. Situation: 
  22. ==========
  23. When sending and receiving faxes with a screen saver (or sceen blanker)
  24. running, any of the following problems may occur:
  25.  
  26.      - Your sent fax arrives muddled or garbled at the recipient's end.
  27.      - Automatic Reception is enabled, but WinFax does not pickup 
  28.        incoming fax calls.
  29.      - When attempting to view received faxes, WinFax displays "Image 
  30.        contains invalid data" periodically.
  31.      - WinFax displays "No communication from fax/modem" periodically.

  33. Solution:
  34. =========
  35. Most screen savers work by monitoring the communication ports for 
  36. activity, which can disrupt WinFax operations. To avoid disruptions, 
  37. you must disable IRQ monitoring for your screen saver.
  38.  
  39. For example, to disable the monitoring feature in the Afterdark screen 
  40. saver:
  41.  
  42. 1.  Click on When in the Afterdark 1.0 dialog, or Setup in the 
  43.     Afterdark 2.0 dialog.
  44.   
  45. 2.  Disable the system IQ activity monitor.
  46.  
  47. You cannot disable IRQ monitoring for all screen savers, such as the 
  48. Windows 3.1 screen saver, and the current releases of Intermission and 
  49. Idlewild. In these cases, turn the screen saver off while running WinFax.

  51. For example, to turn off the Windows 3.1 screen saver:
  52.  
  53. 1.  Open the Control Panel in Windows Program Manager.
  54.  
  55. 2.  Double click on the Desktop icon.
  56.  
  57. 3.  In the Screen Saver section of the dialog, pull down the list of 
  58.     screen saver names and select None.
  59.  
  60. 4.  Click on OK to save your change and exit the dialog.

  62. To determine if your screen saver uses IRQ monitoring, and whether or 
  63. not you can disable this feature, contact the screen saver manufacturer 
  64. or its technical support department.
